HOW TO GET CASHBACK WHEN SHOPPING ONLINE

Cashback sounds like a tiny financial apology from the internet. Here is how to collect it on purchases you already planned, without turning a $30 errand into a $300 shopping spree.

01Start with a planned purchase

Pick an item or service you were going to buy anyway. Cashback is not a saving if it convinces you to spend more.

02Compare the final price

Check the retailer price, delivery charges, returns and available coupons. A better sticker price elsewhere can outweigh cashback.

03Check the cashback offer

A cashback portal such as Rakuten lists participating stores and offer rates. Read the exclusions and minimum purchase requirements before proceeding.

04Activate before checkout

Start your shopping trip through the cashback portal or its supported extension, then complete checkout as instructed. Ad blockers, switching tabs, competing coupon extensions or other tracking changes can sometimes interfere.

05Keep your receipt and check your account

Save the order confirmation and review whether the purchase tracked. Returns, canceled orders and excluded products may not earn cashback.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Does cashback mean free money?

No. You spend money first, and qualifying cashback is credited later under the provider terms.

Do coupon codes always work with cashback?

Not necessarily. Some outside coupons or competing rewards extensions can affect eligibility. Check each offer.
