OpenAI has been under intense pressure since the company disclosed its AI agents breached Hugging Face. OpenAI says it has parted ways with three researchers, who the company said violated its policies for sharing sensitive information. "We have parted ways with three individuals for violating our policies on accessing and handling sensitive company information," an OpenAI spokesperson said in a statement. "Our investigation confirmed that these individuals mishandled sensitive information outside established company procedures, violating our policies and breaking the trust essential to our work." The Wall Street Journal reported that the employees in question allegedly shared "confidential company information with a third-party AI-safety organization." An OpenAI spokesperson did not respond to a question about the nature of the information sharing. OpenAI has faced pressure both internally and externally over its handling of AI-related safety issues, following its disclosure that rogue agents hacked into Hugging Face after breaching a secure testing environment that was not supposed to allow for internet access. The company recently said it supported independent assessments of safety cases, an idea that has gained increasing support across the industry. "OpenAI is committed to supporting independent assessments with deep levels of access across training, evaluation, and deployment," the company said in a post last month. "That access should enable assessors to challenge our assumptions, identify risks we may have missed, and reach their own conclusions about the effectiveness of our safeguards." This is developing.
